At the heart of the Ukrainian conflict lies our way of life.

Our way of life is built on ever more for ever more people – replacing and updating everything faster and faster. This machine runs without interruption and must be fed continuously.

Regretfully, we are unable to look after ourselves.

(6) POETIN en OORLOGSTAAL

Op de website van MO (25 juni) beweert de Russische schrijver Michaïl Sjisjkin: “Poetin heeft de Russische taal veranderd in de taal van moordenaars”. Toeval of niet, maar twee dagen later poneert de columnist Lluís Bassets ongeveer hetzelfde in de Spaanse krant El País: “el uso bélico de de la lengua, la cultura i la identidad rusas”, lees: “het oorlogszuchtig gebruik van de Russische taal, cultuur en identiteit”.

Attention: Mrs URSULA VON DER LEYEN, President of the European Commission

Dear Mrs President,

You declared Ukraine is welcome to join the EU.

Apart from the fact that you mix up the order of regular procedure: may I ask you not to confuse ultra short-term diplomacy of the European Union and the long-term strategy of your country, Germany?

For many decades, your country has applied its long-term strategy called "Ostpolitik" most consistently. This "Ostpolitik" - "policy of the East" - means that Germany looks for opportunities in the East of Europe and a little beyond should the occasion arise. In common terms: Eastward expansion.

Your country, Germany, is also a prime example of "Realpolitik": not too much ideology, just appropriate means to reach the goals set decades ago for decades to come. The re-union of East and West Germany was its main post-war objective, as this would open the gates to the East. Done.

The second was to regain influence in other countries of the former "Eastern bloc", where the German language is still a useful tool and German culture still has its followers - not to mention Polish, Czech and other citizens of German descent. Ukraine must be very tempting, but please don't confuse this with European policy.

You are the first among your European equals and I, as a citizen of Europe, expect you to speak in the name of Europe, not Germany. Also, I would be happy if you spoke a bit more about culture than economy. You would find Russian culture to be an integral part of Europe's cultural legacy.

You might also look to the south, even though Germany has shown its contempt for our very own sunshine states most clearly.

(4) PEACE "CORPS-E-"

TO WHOM IT CONCERNS

The main Goal of our armies today, is to bring Peace. And to keep it. Anyone opposing this Noble Aim, must be a militarist! Hence, the army is against militarism. Which explains why it is all in favour of Peace. Naturally, this is the business of the army’s Peace Corps and not of a civil Peace Movement. By definition, citizens don’t get what war is all about. It’s about Peace! If at times it does look a bit like old school -War, that’s because the enemy hasn’t understood that war means peace.
But we’ll teach him!
P.S.: By popular demand, our Armies are now also equipped to liberate oppressed peoples that share our Values and to evacuate individuals that have served our Cause.

(3) CASE: HET INTERNATIONAAL STRAFHOF VERSUS DE DUIVEL

Gejuich op alle banken en in alle rangen, toen het Internationaal Strafhof een arrestatiebevel uitvaardigde tegen Poetin. Dat gejuich lijkt op het eerste gezicht verantwoord, want is Poetin niet een boosdoener en wordt het niet hoogtijd dat loontje om zijn boontje komt? Maar over welke rechtsgrond beschikt het Strafhof eigenlijk?

Er schort immers een en ander aan het Internationaal Strafhof:

1 het opereert in een rechtsstaatkundig vacuüm;
2 het gebruikt het concept ‘burger’ niet;
3 het verwart recht en moraal;
4 het hanteert het principe van de rechtvaardigheid niet.

(2) DE HYPOCRISIE ALS ALIBI

Een moreel systeem staat of valt met de coherente en consequente toepassing ervan. Anders vervalt men in willekeur, die wordt verdoezeld door een flinke laag hypocrisie. Helaas is precies dát aan de hand in het debat over het conflict tussen Rusland en Oekraïne: een onophoudelijke stroom hypocrisie die verbergt dat we onze morele uitgangspunten willekeurig toepassen, met een compleet gebrek aan geloofwaardigheid tot gevolg. Bijvoorbeeld: waarom een agressor kan worden beschuldigd van oorlogsmisdaden terwijl oorlog zelf geen misdaad is.

(1) DE KERN VAN DE ZAAK

In alle debatten, standpunten en verklaringen over de oorlog om Oekraïne, wordt de kern van de zaak netjes verzwegen. En wat is de kern van de zaak? De vrijwaring van onze economische way of life, te weten onze consumptiemaatschappij. Dat is noodzakelijk voor de vrijwaring van onze politieke way of life,te weten ons democratisch bestel.
Zo niet, komen er brokken van.Zonder voortdurende groei en dito consumptie, wordt de bestaansreden zelf van ons economisch bestel aangevreten.
